A host of Nigerian celebrities including Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy have now lost their Twitter verification badge after Elon Musk’s update.
Twitter owner, Elon Musk had earlier warned that the year 2023 is the year most verified accounts will lose their badges unless they pay $11 a month to keep it.
Following the recent update on Twitter, celebrities who once had these badges are now at risk of impersonation and will now be forced to pay for them to remain verified.
The Twitter verified badge used to be a free service and all those who have met certain requirements could have it but that was until Elon Must took over the San Francisco-based social media company.
Among those who have lost their Twitter Blue badges are Nigerian entertainers and singers Olamide, Asake, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Kate Henshaw and on the international scene, Cristiano Ronaldo amongst others.
The likes of Don Jazzy and DJ Cuppy still retained their badges as of the time of this report.
